As an addition to the new smart note-offs, I think a useful addition could be that you could actually add note-offs by just pressing a modifier and left-clicking on the pattern where you wanted it entered. This would not affect where the scroll bar or cursor was (i.e no screen jumping), the note-off would just be entered where you click.
(any spare modifier/ combination would do as a default, as it could be configurable anyway)
