Anti-americanism

it’s an interesting watch.

This feed comes more close to the general idea what is disliked about America:

There was no doubt as to why they hate Americans. They left out the no culture/uncultured/fat and stupid stuff, though. But the issue at hand in the video is in judging ppl based on the decisions of their leaders. And none of that has anything to do with pretty much any of us. Yet Americans seem to feel the need to explain themselves in hopes of being treated as equals, particularly in Europe. Not me. I don’t apologize for shit. I’ve been in situations where I was unsure if I was being treated the way I was because of where I was born and live. It’s amusing that it’s the Europeans who hate Americans the most, as it could have just as easily been them who migrated here and us who stayed. For Europeans reading this, it’s quite possible that our great grandparents shared tea together or fought in wars together. I might even be a distant cousin. But none of that matters or should matter. I think a lot of the hatred has to do with skin colour. People feel more comfortable with the idea of hating others who are from the same race (as opposed to say…hating someone from South Africa for example, which is the AIDS and gunshot capital of the world, and likely the racism capital as well). Every major country in the world has an extremely dark and f****ed up past, particularly in times of power. It just so happens that the 20th century belonged to America, so our shit is in recent memory. China will soon surpass us, and eventually India may surpass them after we’re all dead. Should all of them be hated if their governments do stupid shit in their times of power? Of course not. It’s on a person-to-person basis.

Don’t count me in, I hope to go to NY later this summer. I jokingly call it my ‘pilgrims voyage’…one of the few places in the world that has got almost every aspect of human life represented.

yeah, f**** china

Are you sure Europeans hate the US citizens themselves?
It is a pithy that the US government has the ability to let native Americans believe the rest of the world hates them while the US government are responsible for generating that idea in general.
I as european person only dislike the actions that US government does and for the fact that half of the American nation never wanted to have let Bush fill in a second term on that presidents chair prooves that there is nothing wrong with most of the American folks in general.
What we hear in Europe is that the average American is getting misinformed and is being mislead by media and authorities about many facts. And this is not what we make up ourselves but what native Americans that emigrated to Europe tell us when they have frequent contact with their families in the US and compare the news from there to what the news reports us in Europe.
I don’t think Americans are dumb, but if they act so, those involved are probably being kept “naive” and don’t have the right means or the knowlegde to access the resources to get educated about the actual reality of certain events.
Indoctrination controls the majority of the herd but indoctrination happens everywhere in the world even in Europe, though the media here is not that much infested with governmental propaganda stuff although they are infested with fact checking problems as well.

Actually going for that “why the rest of the world hates america” stuff seems imho much more a diversion to lure away attention from what is the real problem with the US and that is simply the country’s financial problem.
They attempt to set the focus elsewhere regarding the States while they forget that their economical crisis is about to burst anyway and the whole world just notices it.
The only thing we as the rest of the world can hope is that the best economy (China / Japan) will intervene and prevent catastrophy from going any further.

I often wonder if Shanghai will ever match NY in that regard.

If you want to save $, you could stay in Brooklyn several subway stops away from Manhattan. It’s been said that you can get anywhere in NYC in 20 min. time. NY is expensive, but not as bad as London. Have fun whenever you visit.

I’m sure that many do. There are small minded ppl everywhere on the planet, as you know. And a lot of the hatred of the US gov’t spills over to hatred of the ppl themselves.

In a hypothetical scenario, let’s say that three groups of 1,000 visited Holland on the same weekend. Each group is from a major country that has a demonic history. England, Japan and the United States. All the ppl from each group walks around and mingles with the locals. At the end of the weekend, everyone from each group fills out a survey on how they were treated. Which group would be the least satisfied as a whole?

I think that Americans get the impression they do from traveling or hearing stories from travelers. Additionally, you’ll find “stupid American” comments all over the internet.

i dont like topics like this really, but i checked the video. nothing new there…

better check comments, there are a lotsa LOL there on ppl stupidity and so on.

Sadly it’s true. I’m from Sweden and I have lot’s of friends that for no actual reason claims that all Americans are idiots. I disagree with my friends and often get pissed off at them because one can’t build one’s oppinion based on what media feeds us. And I often get pissed off at media when they try to picture all americans as idiots. My friends seems to think that if they see 10 stupid Americans on television then all Americans must be stupid. Funny though how some Americans believes that polar bears walk the streets in Sweden. :) But once again, the power of media is cruel.

Anyway I have met between 5-10 Americans in real life and all of them has been very clever and nice people. And I base my oppinion of what I, myself has encountered rather than believe what I am beeing fed by media.

i dont really think idiots is the right word.
i think the correct word is… c r a z y
(spaces for emphasis)

In mankind, everyone hates everyone. Just deal with it.

If you think anti-Americanism is the only form of xenophobia still tolerated in Europe, you obviously never walked in the old world. Let me tell you some still widely spread racism form in countries I’ve lived (France and Switzerland):

-General racism against asians : “those chinks are inferior, they got tiny penis, chink chonk chonk me japanese, asians are pedo, asians are freaks, Chinese/Japanese/insertanyasiancountry people are like ants and bee they have no consciousness they work for the collective of communist/capitalist, etc…”
-Common, and I mean it, racism against black people: all the usual racial insults, black people have hard time finding decent jobs, ID cards control (even if most of them have been living in europe for 400 years) are DAILY, etc…
-Same common racism (sometime, even more hateful) against “arab people”.
-Racism against east europeans populations.

I could go on and on and on.

I’m not only talking daily Mr Everyone’s racism discussion at his work here. I’m talking TVs/newspapers documentaries, not of course saying those things literally, but doing insidious documentaries about “How French Muslims are living in a meddle aged culture” for example.

In country like France, racism is even more institutionalized, by the media, by the state, by the laws, etc…
And it’s widely accepted.

I won’t talk about countries I’ve never lived in, but I’m pretty sure it’s the same everywhere, most of people are racists to some extend, even without realizing it, it’s in human nature to hate what is different.

And more than any culture, white culture by its history has been the most racist in act, we pogrom’ed jews for centuries, we erased 99% of the natives Americans population, we made the holocaust, we colonized raped, raided, nearly every mainland, need I go on and on ?

It will never change, and people thinking that what happened 60 years ago will never happen in europe, or USA, again are either blind or way too much optimistic about human nature.
For the simple reasons that anywhere you go, the vast majority of people lack of culture and educations, and are dumbf****ing morons.

I hate just everybody :P

Srsly. Hating a complete country or ethnical group is senseless. There are really cool americans like Jon Stewart and dumb americans like G.W.B.

The same counts for cool germans like Konrad Zuse and dangerous germans like Angie Merkel. In fact, I think HATING only counts for politicians anyway. America has some nice stuff like coca cola (which I still think is one of the best beverages ever) and don’t forget Movies like Pulp Fiction or Return of the Empire.

The russians (if I can say it this way) also have nice movies like Ночной Дозор and even the “axis of terror” has some cool inventions like falafel or the best tea ever.

I would count myself as a cosmopolitan. I deal with a lot of different people from different countries. Either here in Renoise or in the #renoise-irc or #symfony, phpstuff and much more. I had a jewish girlfriend from israel and one of my best friends is a member of sinti and roma.

My point of view is: no matter where you were born you are just in a region which was defined by other people as “estonia” or “germany” or “iran” or “greece” - and that’s all a shit compared to the undiscovered areas which do belong to governments but nobody lives there.

which of these comments would be more acceptable at a typical dinner party in say…paris or zürich?

  1. “black people are f****ing stupid. i can’t identify with their culture.”

  2. “americans are f****ing stupid. i can’t identify with their culture.”

I would kick the author of those sentences out of my dinner :D

stupid people are stupid - just a shame they seem to end up in power with fingers hovering over large red buttons

what they lack in penis size they make up for in video game playing skills.

also: the girls have sideways vaginas.

yup. survive, reproduce, continue.

I also belive that you easily start disliking those who are more powerful. In the end they have the power to decide about things you would probably not agree with. Fear comes, hate comes.
But fear exists on both sides.
Once you have power, you don’t want to lose it. Else anyone else could decide over things that you would probably not agree with. And it’s true, others are also trying to take away the power from you doing unmoral things. So it’s acceptable for you to do the same just to preserve your power.

So looking very generalized at this issue: Europeans are disliking America while Americans are disliking Europeans.

Or like Lunat said before: Everyone hates everyone.

Would you disagree? Would you say that you don’t want to rule your life aka your environment aka the world?

Now let’s write a book about it focusing on two regions (Europe and America). Sells good, don’t it?
I was just about to make as much money writing a book “Why America dislikes the rest of the world” but right now here in Europe it’s Tea Time.

awesome. 10:00pm tea time. i must admit that i’m more for the 10:00am beer time, but to each their own. i can’t think of any friends that i have who haven’t either visited europe or hold it in high regard and want to visit. the worst thing i ever hear anyone say about europe is that they hate us. maybe they should lay off the tea :D

I won’t be living here much longer anyway. I couldn’t care less. I don’t see how being the most powerful country would change my life. Music, chicks, internet, work, whatever. Nowhere in that does f****ing with other countries have anything to do with me other than wasted tax $. Your country doesn’t even have nukes and it’s one of the best.

In my experience most anti-american people I know are americans.
