Any Free General Midi VST or equivalent Synth?

I want the General Midi sounds, like in some Dungeon Synth or Ambient BM. I do not expect full concert hall quality fidelity - if it sounds like 2000s Casio it’s ok. I can throw some Chorus, Reverb and filter stuff.

Arachno soundfont is well liked and Steinberg Halion is basically the ultimate GM synth, but https://musical-artifacts.com/artifacts/3997 has that perfect 90s sound I think - combine that with sforzando

Now if you truly wanted to create NEW sounds in that same “sound”, I think you have to pony up the $50 for https://sonic-cat.com/purity/

I figured out Renose actually loads SFZ file format too!

Like VSCO 2: CE by Versilian Studios: VSCO 2: Community Edition (CE) - Versilian Studios and Versilian Community Sample Library - Versilian Studios Orchestral instruments and other classical instruments, western and oriental.

I prefer SFZs - platform independent.
