she was my beautiful exotic flower
she was uncorrupted by men
she was pure and kind and generous
we fell in love but then
her parents back in her motherland
found a suitor and promised her to him
now I cannot see her anymore
for the motherland her duty lies in
so I sit here alone with my thoughts and my tears
I think about what could have been
