Audio output to Interface not working

I have a Behringer UHD204 interface which is showing in the audio outputs within Renoise but when I select it says it cannot initialize audio. It works fine when choosing output through laptop/headphones but just errors when choosing the behringer. It all works fine with Ableton so unsure why the error.

I guess you use Windows. When selecting the interface, do you use directsound or ASIO? (in ableton and in renoise)

yes, sorry, windows 10. I use DirectSound/DirectX. The message I get is:

Failed to initialize audio buffers for device ‘Speakers (5- UMC204HD 192k)’. Audio is disabled. Please try to choose a different device or samplerate.

Changing sample rate gives same error.

Ableton usually uses ASIO by default, so try to use ASIO in renoise, too. (At least, if you own the paid version). Or try WASAPI.

Try Windows control panel: Sound settings → Device properties → Additional device properties → Advanced and uncheck “Allow applications to take exclusive control”

Last but not least you could delete the Renoise configuration, reboot and try to select the audio device from scratch.

I assume, you have the newest behringer drivers installed? The ones coming with windows are super generic. If you don’t have them installed, do it.

ahhh man, thank you! Yeah it was the drivers I needed to update. I was just using the Windows ones, downloaded the Behringer ones and it works! Thank you so much!
