If I’m correct about it, there isn’t a possibility to include device presets in automation. Why not?

I would love to have it!
Because i use duplex so i would welcome to have some presets for different synths to be automatically assigned to my midi control 
But i’ve already asked. And response was that renoise would crash if you would recall preset for non-existing vsti.

Surely the devs could catch an issue like that and fail a little more gracefully?
If not hy not just for built in devices?
It is not impossible to create a script that saves DSP parameter values to an xml file and then switch between them.
But doing this on the fly while a song is running is risky indeed.
Not only for the part where a device might not support the values but some plugins can’t handle mass parameter updates in a split second and can crash severely.
There are plugins that share over a 1000 parameters, which is quite a bulky action to update real-time during a song process.
So it isn’t practical in more ways than one.
