I remember in the earlier versions of Renoise there was a way to move a parameter slider while the pattern was playing (and recording), and an automation envelope would be created along with a corresponding hexidecimal mapping of whatever it was that you did. I don’t remember how to do this - it would be incredibly useful with (and without) an external controller.
