B B 5 ~remixes

As promised I have done two remixes of two of my favourite Beat Battle 5 tracks, done by Syflom and Carmazine. With each I’ve kept all the original note data and song arrangement, but just pretended I was their Renoise mix-engineer for a day - adjusting tone, balance and effect parameters. I’ve done this not being too fussy and using only Renoise’s native VST plugs to sculpt what I could hear in my head as I was listening to the tracks. You can get them here:

An additional note on the Carmazine track: It has to be my favourite song out of all the BB5 tracks. A soon as I heard it the melodic tension just haunted me. I keep going back to it, playing it over and over. Just goes to show you can have wonderful music without millions of sliced up beats or over-technicalism.

Feedback welcome.

I’m totally suprised that someone wanted to remix my work :) Thanks Foo, I’m glad you enjoyed it! Tomorrow I will wrote something about your work becouse now I have to leave my pc :) Greetz man!

Hm, I found some fixes :) More effective lowpass on moog, improved kick-drum (am I right?). Have you thought about rearrangment ? ;]

I’m actually pretty happy with the arrangement, after all it was your choice and it’s hard to not honour that. Same goes for the melody, I wouldn’t change a thing.

There were numerous subtle tweaks on just about everything. You should A-B the two versions because there’s no way I’ll remember all the little changes I made. The moog was the main difference, as well as some pre-filtering/pre-pitch tricks in the instrument editor just to get it a little more voice like and less stiff. Some minor tone adjustment on most things. Level adjustment on most things, bringing up the pad and bass especially. More transparent compression on the drum sequence.

I got your PM. I wouldn’t go any further than I’ve gone presently, save for doing a mastering of it myself. I refrained from doing that here because my mastering chain uses commercial effects. I can do that if you like? Or are you planning to take the song further, as you noted in the song comments?

If you would take care of mastering it would be just great! I’m planning to do my homepage with all my tracks in near future and I would like to post only well-mixed tunes there so if you could take care of mastering this track I will be thankful! Of course i will note that you mastered it.

Goodo! Will do that and get you a link…

Hey guys, I like the Foo? remix of My Little Underwater Strawberry. The vibe is improved from a sonic standpoint and it makes the track sound more contemporary, less demo scene. Have you considered cutting the “I” pattern and start right at “II”? The water sounds-case stalls the track IMO. Nice mix on Syflom’s track too. Cheers.

Thanks Mr Wigga. I’ll let Carmazine make the call on the issue of the cut.

I will post shorter version of track when I’ll get Foo’s mastered version :)

Ok here’s the master:

PM me if you want a FLAC of the 32bit wav version.

I didn’t get to finish my own song for the BB5 beacuse too many tracks in Renoise killed my bus and made my motherboard catch fire and barbecue my cpu…

I’ve chosen these songs as targets for remixing, remaking, or/and reproducing:

EviL - Hydra
Marc Shake - Diving below
Tenda - Submarine Crash
Keith303 - Last Movements of a Drowning Smurfbaby
Ruth Linde - Nachspiel at the Mermaids
Troupe - A Storm in Love
Æviathän - Seething Hades, An Epilogue

It’s very strange because renoise has a reliable anti FRIED-CPU feature… maybe you turned it off?! :P

I never got remixed :) Looking forward to it…
