Yes I think the automation list could certainly be made more usable, this could be a good step.
In the long run it would be better IMO to separate automated parameters into a separate list/ dropdown rather than having to use the ONLY button atall. Then just keep the search list for searching for new automations.
As a comparison in the track DSPs search box you search for new fx to add to the track DSP chain. Those DSPs are then easily accessible in the chain itself - you don`t have to do a search again in the search box for what is already active there; the chain acts as an active list/dropdown would in the automations.
For sure it would be nice update for this small window. +1 here
