Boss Syb-[3/5] Bass Synth Pedal

Boss do a few monophonic bass synth pedals which detect pitch from the input (ostensibly from a bass guitar) and map that to the pitch control of a little compact AMS DSP unit, with some nice features like waveshaping, autowah, PWM, all that jazz.

I’m a bassist…but what I don’t need is a bass synth pedal. What I DO need is a violin synth pedal and, needless to say, no such specific thing exists. Not a problem - I’m used to finding ghetto solutions to problems, and this is mine.

What I’m hoping someone can tell me is if these pedals, or any similar pedals by other companies, perform normally at high pitches? Obviously a violin tuned to concert pitch has quite a serious tonal range… I really can’t imagine that this would be a problem and every ounce of common sense and scientific knowledge assures me it won’t be - after all, basically all synths are capable of sub-audible frequencies at both ends of human hearing - but you never know ;) . If I’m going to throw money at a project that isn’t guaranteed to work, I’d at least like to make an educated speculation on the odds!

If anyone’s able to help, I suppose they could try this out by just kicking out some notes from right up their bass fretboard. I’ve seen people on the net mention that they’ve used it on violins, but not many, and with not much detailed info - after all, a monophonic synth pedal is hardly likely to sell well amongst guitarists.

Suggestions and discourse would be much appreciated, cheers :)
