I’m running Vista and have 3GB of memory, when i boot up and load Renoise, according to task manager my memory usage it’s around 915MB. When I load an rns file that contains a lot of instruments, lots of memory intensive VST’s like Eastwest orchestral soundbanks I’m up to around 2.2GB in task manager… Now… If I immediately hit file->new and then load the exact same file again, memory usage is at about 1.8GB, not the expected 2.2GB. What’s going on here then?
Vista likes to use (waste) a lot of RAM for caching recently used files and programs.
Try turning off some services with msconfig.exe, paricularly ‘Readyboost’, ‘Superfetch’, and ‘Windows Search’ (if you’re not bothered about indexing your entire harddrive for quick searching).
