also when i play a note with my vsti how do i stop it again [for example if i want a short note played]

Yes you can, use the VSTI automate (meta) device and use the XX yy pattern command s to control the parameters of the device.

It may be easier to use the automation curves that are attached to the VSTI automate device .

Note Offs are inserted into tracks using the Caps Lock key.

And note cuts are inserted as F to volume column. For example F2.
