Alright, a really basic question, but I’m new to both VST’s and Renoise, so have mercy on me
I have an Edirol PCR-M30 with various sliders and knobs, is there some way to map these to the various settings and such (cutoff, resonance, etc) in VST instruments/fx’s? And then, is there a way to automate these?
And while I’m at it, thanks for a great piece of software. I’ve been trying to move on from Reason, to something else - tried Cubase and Fruity Loops, and they seem alright, but then a friend recommended me Renoise - I tried it out for a few days and then I was hooked. Thanks.
Select the device as MIDI input device in the preferences, press ctrl+M while having the track DSP thing at the bottom open, click a parameter, move the knob you want to map that parameter to - tadaaa!
By automate you mean recording the knob/slider movements, right? Yes, that is possible, you can either record to track effects or the automation envelope (the toggle for that is near the transport buttons) - simply move it while the song is playing in record mode (also note the options in preferences->MIDI for what gets recorded).
This is from the top of my head, so I apologize in advance for any important details I no doubt forgot
Thanks for the reply, Johann! However, I wasn’t clear enough in my first post I think, I would like to midimap the various parameters in the VST itself! I don’t know if it’s possible, but I sure as hell wish it is
I guess then by VST you mean VSTi (instrument instead of effect) -> before what I described above you insert a VstiAutomateDevice in the effect chain of the track (any track, actually), then select in that Device the instrument and the parameter(s) you want to automate, and then map that to the controller.
if you really want to automate them via MIDI, you can also use the MIDIDevice, and use the plugin’s “MIDI learn” function, if available, to associate each parameter to a MIDI number
