Is this already possible? That the updater tool will pull the recent binary release from a github repo? Do you think that this makes sense? Might be less effort in developing. You will still have to announce such a repo somehow to the tool stack, but then, it could be more easy…. Even the readme on the Tools | Renoise section could be pulled from the repo then…?
Or maybe it would be more the webpage engine / tools section which has to do the job then?
i mean, i really wouldn’t mind this, as it’d solve me from having to learn how to automate the publishing a of a newly built release from github to renoise tools, but it also sounds like a gigantic can of worms, i.e. dangerous and a security risk.
Indeed. Ok then, what if the tools web section could download binary releases from a github release url, and then do just the same checking as you would manually upload a tool? Then it seems no more security risk to me than now….? But it’s quite a to do for the webpage then, also cronjob or whatever.
