Can the updater tool also pull tool updates directly from github repos?

Is this already possible? That the updater tool will pull the recent binary release from a github repo? Do you think that this makes sense? Might be less effort in developing. You will still have to announce such a repo somehow to the tool stack, but then, it could be more easy…. Even the readme on the Tools | Renoise section could be pulled from the repo then…?

Or maybe it would be more the webpage engine / tools section which has to do the job then?

i mean, i really wouldn’t mind this, as it’d solve me from having to learn how to automate the publishing a of a newly built release from github to renoise tools, but it also sounds like a gigantic can of worms, i.e. dangerous and a security risk.

Indeed. Ok then, what if the tools web section could download binary releases from a github release url, and then do just the same checking as you would manually upload a tool? Then it seems no more security risk to me than now….? But it’s quite a to do for the webpage then, also cronjob or whatever.

Maybe let’s just forget about this idea.

we’d need to talk to the web developer that made the site

and hope they have time
