Started having a weird issue when trying to save slightly older songs in Renoise 3.4.2 on Windows 10
Renoise can no longer save anything in the documents folder in my user profile. This includes my Renoise Songs folder (where I keep a lot of older projects), and the folder I keep my samples in.
Saving an existing song or sample gives me this error:
Saving failed with the error:
Failed to open the file ‘C:\Users\myname\Documents\Renoise Songs\suede.xrns’ for writing.
Also got a similar error when trying to Save As:
C:\Users\myname\Documents\Renoise Songs\bano.xrns
File not found.
Check the file name and try again.
The folders are not set to Read-only. I can save a text file from notepad in those folders with no problem. I can also save renoise songs outside of the documents folder (on the Desktop for example).
I’ve checked the permissions for the Documents folder and I don’t see anything unusual
Had the same issue on Windows 11. It was security related. Windows self-defence algorithm often blocks access to drive C:. I solved this problem via installing third-party antivirus and disabling all Microsoft security in “gpedit.msc”
Try running renoise as admin but my guess is what Dmitry Cherevkov
PRAYTHEPO said above.I think windows antivirus is blocking Renoise to save to that location, you can go to the antivirus settings and exclude any folder you want from being scanned,i did this for my vsts folder too,to prevent any hickapps.I do not recommend turning off windows antivirus completely and going for another software, windows security is one of the best there is ,just exclude the folders and you will be fine
I think I figured it out. I tried excluding those folders from the virus scan and that didn’t fix it, but looking in that menu I saw another setting, “Controlled Folder Access”. Clicked on “Allow App”, and you can see recently blocked apps. Renoise was there, along with Dropbox. Whitelisted both, now Renoise can save wherever I want. Thanks guys.
And yeah, I normally like Windows Security just fine. Every other antivirus I’ve tried is just a bloated mess.
