might want to keep your original Config.xml
Yes, because they use a custom character mapping for the -. off signs in the pattern. You can edit the .fon files directly though. The big variants of the pattern font are a bit ugly, so any help improving them is very welcome.
Btw: You can also all abs paths as font names, so

will also work.
