Is it possible to retrigger note events with shorter notes? I tried to use R and C on one note, but it doesn’t work. C also cut off the retrigger effect.

It’s working, but I guess not in the way you had anticipated…
When combining these two commands, the C (cut) will stop the retrigger after the specified number of ticks.

Time to get creative with multiple note columns, using Cx in the volume/panning column to cut each note, plus the delay column to offset each note within the pattern line.
For example, here’s four 1-tick notes spread over a single pattern line:

A little extra work, but it gives you much more control.
