is there any way to combine two patterns end to end, easily? like, make 2 32 step patterns into one 64?
is there any way to make 1 into 2 or more?
this might help me (and others) sort out songs.

Not that I know of. You could try (maybe you have) to do a left CTRL+B to begin a selection on your first track, and then CTRL+E somewhere on your last track, to end the selection, then go and paste to the pattern you want to add it to, after increasing the number of rows.
Maybe you should suggest a merge patterns feature. 
It ain’t going quicker than copying the pattern using ctrl-F4 and pasting with Ctrl F5 and then doing the rest using selection copy.
