Completely new to music composition, questions about resulting music files created by renoise

Hi… I am new to music composition and do not really know where to start… I used to be into trackers in the early 90s and liked that youtube seemed to make this look like a tracker from the old demo days.

Basically I am interested in making either mod files, or preferably midi files. Not as in midi files that are loops to be used in an audio app, but complete songs using a standard soundfont that can be played via a game engine. Basically I am getting into doom2 modding and want to make my own level music. Most of the sourceports support midi, and mod files nowadays.

  1. Can you load a soudfont into renoise, allowing you to make tracks only using the available instruments / sounds in the soundfont and then output that to a midi file?

  2. Can you output tracker style mod files?

thanks

Soundfont - sure with external VST Plugins like:

There is Tool for Renoise 3.1:

This tracker can save to mod, midi and other tracker formats:

Saving

Modules

  • Impulse Tracker (IT)
  • ProTracker 1 - 99 channels, 31 samples (MOD)
  • OpenMPT (MPTM)
  • ScreamTracker 3 (S3M)
  • FastTracker (XM)

Rendering / Exporting

  • Lossless PCM and Float Audio up to 192 KHz, 32-bit, quad surround (WAV, FLAC, AU, RAW)
  • Opus, Ogg Vorbis and MPEG-1 Audio Layer III (MP3)
  • MIDI (MID)
  • OPL register dumps (VGM, VGZ, DRO)

One can convert a SF2 Soundfont to XRNI in Extreme Sample Converter (ESC) which is good for renoise 1.9.0-UP… Renoise SHOULD be able to load all sampler formats but……………

SVArTracker is the SF2 master as it loads SF2 within it’s own native anti-wave sampler, not just a solo instrument but custom made banks & in the pattern editor you have program change per line for any instrument in the bank in any track… Not only that but you can instance the sampler up to 16 times with the bank shared between all instances with each instance it’s own ‘out’ so hooked to different FX or other…
