Compression .rnxi files

I not tech savi but,

does our DAW compress not used .xrni files for maximum drive cappaciy?

i runnin out of GB soon,
if not wouldn’t be a great thing that this program compress it for us instead to do that manually ? once it is configured no waste of time imho…

Hello.

The file format is already compressed. It is a zip file with a different extension, and renoise detects the format by the special files in it.

Sorry, there is not much you can do to compress it any further. You can exchange samples with lossy compression somehow, I believe…but this will also change the samples subtly.

So you will have to buy more/bigger storage disks or make a backup store on an external disk somewhere to preserve all your surplus file versions that you don’t need to work with or show anyone any longer.

Additionally, Renoise also saves all samples with the lossless codec FLAC. So Renoise already does the best possible:

  • Compressing the whole as zip
  • Compressing samples with the most efficient lossless codec
