Controlling turn effect (`x001`) probabilistically and exclusively

If I write 1001 or 1000 in the global FX column, I can enable/disable the effect device for that track, but what is the simplest way to make this work probabilistically and exclusively?

Specifically, I would like to control the activation of Repeater by probability, and I thought I could do that by putting Y00 or something in the Global FX column, Group FX column, etc., but it still doesn’t work.

A random LFO could drive the on/off property of the effect device. Playing with the LFO offset value will give more more or less odds of altering the device value.

Alternatively, you can also use a LFO with fixed/custom random points.

This would give less unpredictable results.

Also, I might be going on a tangent, but another option is to use the Meta Mixer to sum different “fixed” LFOs into a more complex shape - which is also less unpredictable, yet still perceived as randomness by the listener.

This is pretty common in modular synthesis - instead of using a sample & hold with a noise source (random), sometimes it’s better to mix simple LFOs (less random, more predictable). Renoise can do this with the Meta Mixer.

The resulting LFO is a more or less random shape that will eventually reach the end of the cycle and restart with the same values. Map the On/Off button and mess around with the offsets and frequencies. Longer LFOs mixed with faster ones will result in interesting jittery shapes.

@James_Britt @untilde Thanks. I have tried those, but there is a point where the sound itself stops working, probably because of the control at the tic between the lines.
I want the sound to either come out or repeat, but there is a high probability that the sound will not sound at some point.
Is this difficult without adjusting the Custom graph of the LFO, etc.?
Ideally, it would be better if it could be controlled only by Yxx in the pattern editor, etc., so that the ON/OFF control can be clearly separated for each line, but that does not seem to be possible.

After thinking about it, there was no need to use Repeater.
In this case, using Rx or -Rxy seems to be the smartest and easiest way.

@James_Britt @untilde Thanks for all the help you gave me. I learned a lot!
