If you copy-paste track note data, let’s say from one song to another, you usually have to replace the instrument numbers by using the advanced editing dialogue.
What if the instrument numbers were replaced automatically, in a way that the numbers will be replaced with the previously selected instruments? This would speed up the workflow. For example if I copy a track from one song where instr. 3 + 4 are used. Now I select instr. 6 + 8 in the target song and after paste, the numbers are replaced from 4 -> 6 and 4 -> 8.
This is concept of instrument tied to the track (and i dont like it even if i dont like current behaviour neither)…
What i recommend you for now is: http://www.renoise.com/tools/convert-instrument-number
It is much faster than advanced dialog option…

Thanks for the hint. But this tool only works for replacing all instruments in the track with ONE instrument, not multiple…
Well the advanced edit dialogue consists of a lot of functionality but somehow it’s stressful to use it (kinda avoiding it). Maybe this adv. dialogue could be improved easily:
Remembering last selection of target (track, whole song etc). Could be saved with the song settings. And also master settings.
Selecting source and target instrument could take the selected instruments
Some other improvements…
Edit:
accordions for the sections in adv edit, so you can fade out options you never or rarely use. The state of the accordions saved in the Renoise master settings. Edit ok already there
