I’m 18 and i started Renoise (and electronic music) one month ago. I really like the DRIVE movie, the first thing i wanted to do on Renoise is a tribute for it. Leave some comment
Really like the feel and the chords used. Are they taken from a movie track, or are you just trying to recapture the feel of the film?
I think you need to work on the snare, as if it had more presence it would really bring the whole track alive. Try stacking several Snare samples that all have a different tone and frequency range with the main hit, and gel them together with a compressor.
First of all, good job on the lead synth. I really like it. The piano is a bit too loud for me, though. I’d definitely make it come in from background and keep it a lower level.
Here’s a few tips from me (I’m also a beginner, so someone will correct me if I’m wrong).
When choosing or creating sounds for your drum kit, it’s good to play with volume envelope (instrument settings), and change the durations. You can make them sound bouncy, or get some pumping action by ending the sound right before the next hit, etc. It’s a lot of fun.
Another thing you might want to try is change the hi-hat beat. For example, in your tune, having hats on off-beat would probably speed things up, and sound more energetic.
Play with volume of the snares. The sound of the snare is not bad. It works for me, for some hits, I think you should cut the volume to say 30~40 or something.
Personally I love the piano on top like that. I’m listening on laptop speakers so it might be too loud for the mix, but having them sit on top of everything else is cool with me if that’s where you want the attention going.
I really love that main lead sound. How did you do that? Is it a synth or a sample? What effects did you put on it? I really like it. Great work.
wow i wansnt expecting the heavy saturation in the middle of your second track… i understand what your trying to achieve by creating such a contrast in your track but you may have overdone it a little bit. just pulling the fx you used there on the middle-part back a litle bit or if you really like the raw sound then just pulling down the post-fx volume on that channel a bit and maybe even putting a subtle limiter behind it would make the sound more powerfull instead of the soundassault it is now. the balance in volume between beginning&end and the middle would benefit from this so the track has energy of the whole line then.
but all in all, quite good work if your just new to renoise
Hey DearMiyagi, really enjoyed this tune and great to see it was influenced by Drive! I’ve had the soundtrack on repeatedly since seeing it and this definitely fits. Looking forward to seeing what you do next.
Thanks, the main lead sound is a Wobble Saw but really different from the original, i applied a lot of effects (Chorus, Multitap delay, distortion etc…) .
Thanks everybody for your tips, i modified Speed, and now it’s goes like this :
