first of all: excellent update. Didn’t see that much new and exceptionally useful stuff coming. ^^
Support for multi timbral plugs, enhanced browser, more precision for automation & note editing…
My favorite, though, is support for drag’n’drop. Was wishing it for… a long time.
There is an issue with it, though. One of my main uses for it would have been the ability to drag’n’drop stuff from Edison b[/b] to the sample editor. Or from Renoises’ sample browser into Edison for that matter. (Or from/to Slicex (I know, I know: Renoise doesn’t need a sample slicer. ^^)
It seems that you can’t drag’n’drop stuff from loaded plugins to Renoise and vice versa. What would totally be nice if it was possible.
b[/b] Image-Lines’ audio editor which can be loaded as a plugin FX. (demo)
If I remember correctly Edison (FL) did support windows clipboard, but eventually did make it’s own custom made temporary file handeling for this instead. It should be very easy for other host’s/apps to support this though… let me see if I can find that info somewhere…
Edit: Found it. Would be cool to support this. Useful to quickly swap samples between Renoise and FL through Edison. FL works quite good now loaded as vsti in Renoise as we now have the proper routing options.
thx pysj for finding that. I also wondered why Copy-from-Edison-and-Paste-into-RenoiseSampler from clipboard didn’t work in 2.0.0.
But that’s actually not really the issue. It’s about drag’n’Drop. I remember gol (lead developer of FL/Edison/Slicex) mentioning something about an older method for drag’n’drop and a newer, more compatible (or versatile[?]) one. The latter being the one he is using now for his stuff.
I’m wondering if the problem here could lie in 2 different, incompatible ways of drag’n’dropping, or if drag’n’drop from/to plugins isn’t supported at all (yet?) in Renoise. I don’t have any other plugins I coud test d’n’d here.
Ok. I just asked over at the IL forums what could be causing drag’n’drop from Edison not to work.
It is because Edison drags in ‘move’ mode. There are three different modes: copy, link and move.
Any chance of Renoise supporting all three of them (or at least implement move mode)?
The old version of Edison moved in copy mode and that one works with Renoise. I can drag’n’drop from the old version without any problems. So the data per se (the flavor?) is compatible. The only thing changed related to that problem is the dnd mode now being ‘move’ rather than ‘copy’.
The new versions’ dnd also works with Winamp, so it’s actually working (no bug [i think…])
