Anyone have a reccommendation for a program that assists in synthesis of my own drums as opposed to using drum samples?
thanks in advance

There’s plenty…DR-008 is a good one to get into, apparently. I’ve heard tales of folks who’ve tried it never looking to anything else. Additionally, it’s capable of hosting the MusicLab plugins Slicydrummer and Fillindrummer, which are the bomb for showing you how to program drums by example…
Stomper is a freeware kick drum generator which is quite easy to use yet really lets you get your hands dirty, although I haven’t touched it for a long time…it’s place has been taken for me by a beautiful sounding creamware plugin called Adern Kickme…
I have never tried DR-008. Have to check that out.
Steinbergs Groove Agent has some nice basic kits. Not maybe top notch but good for basic things. Sounds in Groove Agent are built upon samples though.
Drumatic by E-phonic is good, and FREE !!!
808 + 606 emu.

if someone has good patches…
rot
i’ve tried a lot of drumsynths and SonicCharge’s Microtonic VSTi really beats them all in terms of quality and flexibility imo.
it’s not free though, but a demo can be downloaded at http://www.soniccharge.com.
thanks all, yes im looking for something not sample based…im going to check out some suggestions
I’m using FXpansion’s BFD within Renoise, and it’s one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.
Life is good.
Will seek out the BFD and Microtonic demos, methinks…
yeah me too
but its sample based
My god… BFD are 2 DVDs of samples! it’s huge…
can it be used without totally installing it to hard drive?
thanks
if you need an opinion about BFD from me (I think most of you consider me maybe a disturbing musician, but at least a good drums programmer, don’t you? ), I’ve tried it and it did not impressed me.
Ok, great sounds, but the VSTi itself was quite under expectations.
For drums, in my opinion, there is no need for a specialized VSTi: good sounds is all you need.
If you’re looking for a VSTi synthetic drummer, you can always try ErsDrums
Now, if it’s good or not, I have no clue of. I know though that PolyIblit by the same author is a great synth…
There are some modules that u can choose not to install, but u do have to have enough HDD space. And FXPansion is coming up with a expansion pack which will pack up 22gigs of drum sounds!
And yes, it’s true that you do not need specialized VSTi to make music but if u happen to have them, then they just help.
I think BFD is just great. Much more if you make music that requires real drums (I myself make DnB). That shit is velocity sensitive, so the higher the velocity the louder (and different) the drum sound will be, just like a real drummer.
To me, the best emulation of real drums yet.
