Dsp Groups

Hi its me!

so, as we already have concept of groups in patterns, i just had an idea how we could maybe use that kind of system for plugins also,

imagine we have simple dsp chain like chorus -> distortion -> reverb
normally you process these effects serially, and if you want some parallel (partial) effecting you need to use send channels,
but send channels are not always usefull and are kind of global for the track, while you might want to just effect another effect in chain,

for example you would have a reverb in the chain but you’d want only hi frequencies to be affected, so you would create a group where you
would have a reverb and a filter and result of this would be used as an effect in original chain

does that make any sense ? would it be possible ?

something like combinator in reason,
the racks in ableton,
or the container in guitar rig 5?!

good one. liked.

I just want a modular screen a la buzz or max msp where I can route more flexibly. Make it happen Renoise :drummer:

i would like modular screen too, but that would be completely new engine feature, what i suggest could be implemented in renoise
without adding new visual - tho in future modularity like in buzz would be definitely more advanced

Right now you can do the trick with the Multiband send device

Anyway + 1 for rack module… or should i call it Doofer?

I was reading it as a different idea to the original Doofer.

The Doofer is/was all about bring control of different parameters to one easy to reach place. The may be from different effects and even different tracks if you want.

This I see as a way of trying to encapsulate parallel effects processing within a Meta device. Save having to use two sends to parallel process and then recombine for further effects. I guess the presentation of the parameters to the user could use the same idea as the hoped for Doofer but it would really require an external editor to set it up.

If it could give free routing of audio inside it maybe there could be a way of using it for true side chain on effects with that feature…

Or maybe I misunderstood the idea completely but I hope not :)

reading again the post i think you are right Kazakore… the rack is still a great device

Yep, good idea.

You understood it well sire! (y) ( ← we are lacking thumb up emoticon )

This is a nice idea.

Mo modular mo freedom.
