Simple question: Is there a way to map some kind of envelope to a parameter of an effect in the DSP chain?

No problem, dude. It’s easy to overlook the obvious stuff when you might be used to the methods of other ‘standard’ sequencers. Renoise can be overwhelming at first, but you will soon figure out how incredibly powerful it really is.
