Fast scrolling through patterns in Matrix stutters (Renoise 3.4.4)

Description:
Scrolling isn’t smooth in Renoise 3.4.4 but stutters and jags
Window 10, Nvidia RTX 2070 Super with latest drivers
32gb ram and 8 cores, Babyface Pro etc
Enough hardware for smooth scrolling

Steps to reproduce look like this:

  1. Launch Renoise 3.4.4
  2. Open any the song
  3. Click in the Pattern Matrix
  4. Press ctrl down
  5. Wait for acceleration

Expected results:
Smooth scrolling, straight down like it does in Renoise 3.3.1 for example.

Actual results:
It goes 2 lines up, one line down, 3 lines up, 2 lines down.
Jumps all over the place

I remember those old demo songs ,vivace aka Botb
They are not part of 3.4.2, they don’t seem to be there anymore .

It’s an old copy/paste, I’ll change it

Isn’t he automating the lpb in the song ?

Sorry, that song was never used, please forget I mentioned it.
I already edited it out.

No I don’t manipulate the LPB.

This doesn’t happen with “any Song” here. Could you please share an example XRNS with us, so we can try to replicate this here? Or does this also happen for you in a song with lots of empty patterns as well?

What are your Audio settings. Are you using ASIO or WASAPI? Is Renoise running as ReWire slave to something else?

Oh! Thanks!
Didn’t expect that. It only happens with Directsound!
Not with Wasapi or Asio. Ok this is a nice workaround \0/

With Directsound it happens with any song. Empty or not. The example song Dead-bears has it also one filled with empty patterns. Even filling it with empty patterns has the same effect.

No fancy stuff, just pure Renoise. No Rewire slaves or anything special.
Well besides TotalMix which comes with the BabyFace

Large Audio latencies may cause this with any Audio architectures, but ASIO and WASAPI usually allow lower latencies without crackles.

It’s not about your song
It’s about the song by vivace , iirc he used a lot lpb automating back in the day

Edit : solution already given

Thats it!

Ok I never ran across this but (obviously) your right!
The version never mattered, 3.3.1 has the same issue.
Lowering the latency fixed it.

Thanks, that is an even better workaround since I can still use directsound!
Appreciate the feedback guys, thanks!
