Ok, attention all you DSP coders :)

fourier transform into freq domain gives generally complex values (x + iy or r(cosö + isinö) ) What i wanted to ask is this, can i just take the |z| ie r for amplitude and drop the phase part if all im intrested in is to find out frequency components of the signal? The phase parameter isnt important then, right?
