I received an invite for this new Google Wave thing.
Some people are heralding it as the biggest thing since sliced bread; some people are going “meh”. So far it looks interesting and a bit of a fun distraction.
I made a public renoise ‘wave’. However, I tried to search for it and I can’t find it - I can’t tell if it’s me or Google. It’s still very buggy.
Google Wave is a live web-based collaboration tool. This is kinda hard to explain, but It’s google’s attempt to unify chat, email, forums and newsgroups into a single interface.
“Topics” are known as “Waves”, and you can make them public or private. A private wave could be 5 employees trying to discuss something. (It’s less messy than CCing…) Within the discussion you can have private discussions.
You can embed stuff like Google Maps, youtube, images, polls - that sorta thing. The interface is kinda cool and sexy. Very web2.0. There’s an API so you can incorporate your own gadgets (and use others)…
Right now it’s in some sort of alpha stage. They sent out 100,000 invites and I was part of that group…
There’s actually a ton of really interesting stuff in there, but if you don’t have the patience for that and just want to get a quick overview, watch this instead:
