Groups, send (keep sound) and effects

Hi everyone!

I use a lot of Send devices with keep sound ON, for reverb especially. I also use quite a lot of groups to share effects over some specific tracks, and also « organize » myself.

However, if let’s say I add a filter automation (that removes completely the sound) on the group (either directly or via send) the signal sent to the reverb in the track is the one before filtering, so it activates the reverb even with no sound.

My way of doing here, is to add the send on the track directly, so I can put it before the reverb send. But it’s a bit annoying since I have to automate filter send on and off on all tracks and not just the group.

Is there a way, to either « choose the order of sends » even when some are in group some are in track, or maybe a way to automate all ON/OFF on the group at once ?

Why not just keep the signal of the reverb send in your track effect chain and automate the filter within the group effect chain? Or are you talking about automating a built-in filter of a synth VST? The order of sends in tracks and groups are given afaik, meaning that the track effect chain is the first part of your effect chain and the group effect chain the second part.

Maybe I do something wrong here, because that’s what I wanted to do at first but since the filter is in the group effect chain, reverb (send in track effect chain) is unaffected by it, so I can hear the reverb even though the filter cuts all the sound

EDIT: forgot to add, this seems completely normal, since the reverb send receive the signal from the track effect chain, and not the group one, so no filter there

Of course, you’re right. Ok, so you want every instrument within the group to be reverbed and filtered? If yes, put the send (reverb) in the group fx column past the filter (provided you want those instruments to have the same amount of reverb). If no and there’s let’s say only one instrument of the group to be reverbed, you’ll probably have to put the reverb in the instrument track instead of sending the data to a reverb fx track. This way you could at least filter the group including the reverb at once.

yep that’s the thing, I don’t want reverb on all those synths, or at least not the same amount. I’ll keep what I did which is using the filter send on my group track, but also on the instrument track (before the reverb).
