GUI effects and animations

I always wondered what exactly GUI effects is doing when being enabled. I don’t see any difference with GUI effects being turned on or off:

from the manual:

GUI effects & animations: When enabled, animations will be used in some parts of the interface, e.g. smooth scrolling, fading of menus, transparency etc. Disable this option if you dislike them or are using a very slow computer.

Maybe it does not work on Linux?

I just turned it on, and the one difference i noticed was some smooth animation when moving effects around in the dsp panel. I’m not sure if there’s anything else.
