GUI Load Failure After Installing ASIO

Hello,

I was trying to get my guitar to input into Renoise using ASIO4ALL.

I did the following steps:

I set ASIO as my sound driver in the Renoise settings and it didn’t work.
I closed Renoise.
I installed ASIO4ALL.
I reopened Renoise.

I see these two dialog boxes:

CrashBackup here:
Untitled_3_14_2021__23_45_crash.xrns (3.5 KB)

I restarted my PC and I observed the same behavior.

I uninstalled ASIO4ALL and I observed the same behavior.

I restarted again and I observed the same behavior.

I cannot open Renoise anymore without getting blocked by these dialog boxes. Please advise if I have to reinstall or if theres an easier way to revert the settings!

Have you tried to rename the CrashBackup folder ? (or delete it if you don’t care about it…)

Thanks for the reply!

Same issue though. It just recreates the CrashBackups folder and adds a new document into there.

Update! I was able to rename ...AppData\Roaming\Renoise\V3.2.2\Config.xml to _Config.xml and I was then able to successfully launch Renoise with default settings. This leads me to believe that something in the following config file is causing the crash.

_Config.xml (51.5 KB)

I diagnosed the offending value in the config:

<ActiveDeviceType>1</ActiveDeviceType>

When this is set to 1 in the config, the GUI fails to load. Editing it to be 0 instead allows Renoise to boot. This is technically resolved for me now, but there should probably be a catch so the GUI doesn’t fail completely when ActiveDeviceType is set to a faulty device.

Glad you could fix it. There are such checks to prevent this, so I’m wondering how this could happen.

Could you please send me the Renoise log file to analyse this issue further? You’ll find it by clicking on the “Help” → “Show the Log File…” menu entry in Renoise.
