How Do I Load Samples?

I exported wav files from protools. I’m trying to load them into renoise and I have no idea how to do it. First I use the disk browser to locate them. Then they show up in the second to right top window. I try to drag them to the top right window and it doesn’t work. What is the deal? Do they need to be in a different format?

It doesn’t work. I double click the sample. It then appears in the little text field to the right of the disk image and not in the instrument list. When i click the disk it just says that the sample is already loaded and do I want to save over it. What am I doing wrong?

It sounds to me that you are trying to load a sample as a song. In order to load a wav check that the sample option is highlighted to the left of the disc-op.

If you check again with the above link dblue has given you will see the options it is possible to select (with the little button next to each) i.e.

*Song
*DSPChain
*Instrument
*Sample
*Theme

You need to switch between these options for different operations for the disc-op in renoise.

Also if you wish to only see the possible files you can use in each mode make sure the

. (top of middle window)

button is switched off. Rns`s will only be shown then when in song mode and wavs etc will only be shown in sample mode.

edit: also try different samples to check the wavs you are using are compatable. If they are not renoise should tell you on the bottom of the screen.

Hmm, well if you’re just trying to load samples, then you should not be getting any messages about overwriting files, etc. You only need to use the disk icon/button when you wish to save a sample from a song, back to your hard drive.

I’ll try to break it down:

(Sorry if this seems silly or redundant, I just wanted to make it completely clear)

Step 1:
In the Disk Browser area, make sure the “Sample” filetype is selected.

Step 2:
In the instrument list, find an empty slot you want to load the sample into.

Step 3:
Locate the .wav file on your computer using the file selector.

Step 4:
You should be able to just double click the .wav here to load it, but if that doesn’t work, try right-clicking on the file, then choosing “Load file…” from the menu.

Step 5:
Now the .wav sample should be loaded into the instrument slot, ready to use.

Hope this helps.

Also… as Ledger said, try out other .wav files you have to see if they work. What is the format of the .wav’s you exported from Protools? Bit depth, mono or stereo, sample rate, etc. Also, is it uncompressed PCM format, or is there any kind of compression/codec being used by the .wav?

Experiment with other .wav files/formats and see if they work.

Sosyne:

you really ought to have a look at the manual for renoise 1.281 it is really put together well.
1.5 hasnt changed drastically since 1.281.
even tho it does not look like it :D
so alot of the stuff in it is still very usefull.
the newer functions they added are not in it of course but, that manual was all i needed to start tracking from no knowledge of trackers

if you gave the team money,
you should be able to download it from backstage.
if not then i could probably send it to you somehow.
