I am so into supercollider

Lately I havent had any sun on my skin ,since I am so deep into supercollider
For me its one of the hardest programs to learn , since I don’t have a coding background and well let’s just say forget everything you thought was logical
The dsp part is easy , but the SC language pheww …
I started two years ago but gave up after a few months , now back into it and I am making some progress
Synthdefs , pdefs etc…
Made some really great instruments , microtoninc clones ,FM,Phm stuff where each declared argument can be sequenced from a Pbind , whcih is really fun since you can nest pseqs inside pseq , having all kinds of polyrhtym and polymeter going on .
Here is some simple stuff I made , these are just loops , all synthesized and sequenced in supercollider
Link goes to gearslutz since we can’t upload soundfiles

Nice loops. I too tend to gravitate towards FM and microtonal stuff when I use SC, it just seems like a natural fit somehow. If it makes you feel better, the SC language is weird even for people who do have a coding background!

nice work!

These sound great :fire:

I tried learning supercollider some years back, but didn’t get too far. Seems eminently capable if you can grok the language. lots of interesting SC music out there…

kudos for sticking with it enough to make some great sounds!

I love SC and you’re making great use of its power !

Well I have been building stuff in reaktor for almost two decades , so synthesis wise I know my stuff and SC is imho really easy in that department , just variables ,arguments etc…and most of the ugens sounds fantastic.
But making it all sound together is a whole different story , atm I am just using Pdef , pbinds sequencing tmy synthdefs and using mutliple play, stop methods .
Like this :
Pdef(\rhytm).play(t)
Pdef(\rhytm).stop(t)

Pdef(\melodie).play(t)
Pdef(\melodie).stop(t)…
Pdef(\stuff).play(t)
Pdef(\stuff).stop(t)

t=Masterclock(127/60).permanent_(true);

It’s far from song building material, just loops and stuff
The more I read into the stuff the more I think if I really should go n with it , it’s so damn complex …clases ,methods, streams …arghh …really makes my head spin
The only reason I go on is because it let’s me do things that I can’t achieve elsewhere , best alternative is Loomer architect with reaktor combo ,but that’s not as sleek and unified as supercollidier.
I tried max a couple of times and nowhere got near the results I can get out of SC.

SuperCollider can’t generate a vst🤧

So?

possible to use SC via Midi?

Yes.

Powerfull FM via SC?

Yes.

Quality of the software oscillators?

Yes.

Complete API?

Yes.

One of my all time heroes is Cylob
Had all the system music system lp’s , Rock out ( sadly lost them )
The guy is a fucking legend and deserves so much more credit

Sounds great and reminds me of Autechre.

You should check out Pure Data, it’s pretty cool too if you’re into manipulating sound: https://puredata.info/
PURE DATA: 18 Simple Oscillators with [osc~] - YouTube

Never liked pure data but I know you acn do amazing things with it , check user acreil on you tube he does mnidblowing stuff
I have ,always been reaktor nerd (still am ) slowly getting into supercollider
The included ugens sounds so much better comparaed to pure data etc

Reaktor will always be king :stuck_out_tongue:

Depends what you mean , king of what ?
Reaktor has an amazing low level dsp language called core,
supercollider doesn’t really have that but you can use externals etcc but itcan do things reaktor can only dream off , or at least would take a lot more time to achieve
Both have their strengths and weaknesses
