Yep I’ve been trying to start renoise for some time now I’m also reinstalling it but keep trying vst, searching on the disk how long does something like that take. is there something I need to change. are there people with experience with this problem.
if anyone knows the cause and a solution, I’d like to hear it, kind regards marc de zeeuw
Hi I can that setting in renoise I can only now not get into renoise because I have not started because I keep searching for vst files, I do have a hidden file I have in windows 11 which I just got new and since then I have not started anymore, renoise the program. it is in vst 3, I have an image, it shows it in windows 11 under settings apps and then installed apps. I can press delete and then you get the message that you see in the photo. I have I already have it with the app on my phone, ShatGPT pressed and then you get a way as advice to do it via powershell but I have no experience with it. Are you familiar with that or a way that renoise can work properly again.
I just saw under the photo another photo that you can do something in windows, I don’t know much about systems. or I switched to windows 11 pro. I have a question which keys do I need to do what you show in the bottom image that black and then with Config.xml
C:>user. which key do I have to use to get there. I have windows 11 pro.
Hello I tried in comand prompt what I saw on the image. Maybe I’m doing something wrong.
or is it a difference I have had problems since I have windows 11. Maybe I’m doing something wrong. but I don’t get as far as I can see on the image.
I think it might be a good idea to just reinstall Renoise.
I don’t speak Dutch(?) but the error message looks like it might say that it can’t find the uninstaller for Essence.
Not sure if you wanted to uninstall that plugin or not? Might be a good idea to just renistall Essence, too. If you no longer need it, having it reinstalled would probably make the uninstaller available again.
If you’re not comfortable in the command prompt (which is not the same as Powershell, btw) you should probably not try those methods… you actually need a text editor, not the command prompt, in order to edit the XML file mentioned by radian.
I am indeed Dutch. I am so stressed about it. I thought if I would delete all my vst plug in files that renoise would start again, that is not the case I have windows 11 pro since yesterday. somewhere with aps (files) delete there is also a file
cd C:\Program Files\VST Plugins\Ronan\Essence .
I can’t get rid of that. maybe I don’t need it anymore, but if you know how I could start renoise again with windows 11 without deleting everything, I would like to hear from you
Windows 11 has some specific (I say “stupid”) issues with permissions inside the Program Files directory. Rather than risk getting you into a bigger mess I’m not going to try and fix that for you via forum posts.
I truly think it’s best to just reinstall Renoise, but I did find this note:
And again - you could reinstall Essence just so that you can properly uninstall it.
Please, don’t manally add or remove things from inside Program Files unless you know what you’re doing… despire the best will in the world it can get ugly
yes, this might be it, turning off or lowering the strictness of permissions in the file and folder settings and/or lowering user account control (UAC).
The answer is to put VSTs somewhere not under Program Files, like c:\VSTPlugins
(except VST3 that have to go in a specific folder, and are designed around that to behave properly in Program Files)
This isn’t specific or new to Windows 11, it’s been the case since Windows 7 that an old VST might try and read or write a config or whatever in the folder where it’s .dll is and fall foul of permissions issues.
That’s why i always recommend to start a software as admin (right click on the shortcut>preferences>Compatibility>check “run as admin”. In a lot cases this can solve the permission problems.
Because starting as admin gives the started software all permissions it needs to run properly.
@Herrie
It also could be that just one single faulty VST causes that issue when it will be scanned by Renoise.
You can try to move the content of your whole VST3 folder (only the content, not the folder itself) to another location and then try to start Renoise again with an empty VST3 folder.
Then, if this started Renoise without issues, you can try to move the content back.
But move back the plugins individually. Move only the first plugin and then try to start Renoise again and have a look if Renoise is still hanging when searching for new plugins. If it worked fine, move the next VST back and search for plugins again. Do this plugin by plugin until Renoise starts to hang again when searching for plugins. Then you know which VST causes the problem.
Maybe you could have look into the log file with a text editor. Maybe there’s the error listed. Can you please attach it here? Maybe i can find someting.
You can find zhe log file here:
C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Renoise\V3.4.4
I checked if there was anything active in task manager, and I also licked renoise to start, I thought maybe the problem will be seen there too. it is now like this and I had not seen that before, this error code when starting renoise which I think gives more clarity about the problem code:5, do you know what kind of message this is. I will translate it. and then see if I understand it or understand it correctly, I am afraid that I am doing wrong things again. if you know more about this message and know how to solve it, I would like to hear it.
You can attach the log file here (see my previous post) so we can have a look. Maybe the problem can be found there. Also send the log file to the Renoise developers. You can find the email in your last error message above.
Yeah I’m going to pass it on to renoise and also look to see if more people in the forum have had this problem or if there is an error on the internet (code:5)
I always start Renoise as admin and i never had such problems. I also still can drag and drop samples from Windows Explorer into Renoise sampler and also directly to an instrument slot.
