Renoise and FM8. Dubstep with breaks, melodic and groovy. One person described it as exciting, which is my goal. A track you can lose or find yourself in. Enough words; I hope it’s something you can enjoy

I’ve been releasing some tunes I make using Renoise as an arranger/sequencer from samples I make in other daws or collect out in the world. The algorithm is not my friend and so maybe some ppl on this forum will take a listen. I have found some great music on here after some years of lurking…

Obviously trackers are best suitable for more traditional song structure by writing one pattern at the time. Thats a bit hard to do with Berlin-school, since it has this long floating structure.
But with some experience I have developed a good workaround for that.
I still do one pattern at the time, but when I ‘jam’ in one pattern, then when I get the right feeling it is no problem to figure out whats to come in the next pattern. Then I instantly ‘copy to next pattern’ and continue short after into the next one. It almost feels doing it live, in spite of the little interruption. No problem, since I couldnt do it live without errors anyway
I use both arpeggios and pure sequences for the sequenced notes.
In the end it doesn’t matter to me what equipment or software to use… it is a matter of inspiration, and being present in the middle of the inspiration.
Then I have no problem to use that ‘clumsy’ nature of a tracker to this stuff.
I often think of what Martin Galway had available when he made the ‘Parallax’ title tune on the C64. Very sparse editor, if any… mabye just typing it into mem?
Nice one. When you’re creating “long floating structures”, keep in mind that the pattern length is adjustable up to 512 positions.
Herr F95! Partially yes, partially no. The part from 0:32 to 1:20 is great, and the transition to the following part works quite well. Nice sound around 1:57. The transition to the next part is ok too. Imho the quality drops at 3:00, the transition and the bass don’t fit, the last part seems “unnecessary” (despite the pretty nice high synths in the background), just like you wanted to drag out the tune length. Nevertheless nice tune overall. But I have to say that change isn’t always a good thing.
We need more Electro and pure Electronic!

Yes I know the lenght of 512 lines.
But I find it easier to work with short patterns. It gives me better overview of what I do, and I can easier navigate between parts by changing pattern nr, instead of scrolling a large pattern.
For me it works like that. I have tried both, and this short pattern method gives me a quicker workflow without loosing the inspiration.
Sometimes I join patterns together when they are done, to simplify the overview of pattern list.
Thanks TNT, your feedback is always very valuable for me, I would even say the general sound quality of my songs improved after following some of your Mixing and Mastering advice you gave to myself and others

Glad my comments are useful for something.
You know best what’s best for you. But I’m sure it’s way easier having longer patterns in case you need to do a lot of graphical automation in order to shape the sound.
