Your performance sounds better than many “professional” productions, no need to sell yourself short. I just noticed some guitars on your header on SoundCloud, so yeah, unlike me you’re a real musician. Can you read notes too? We have some things in common, I also started in 1991 on SoundTracker (Amiga) and did A LOT of different styles during those years, but unlike you I decided to focus on a maximum of two styles around 15 years ago. That’s what I would recommend, because you’d get way more listeners and everybody would know what to expect from your music. And your music definitely deserves to be heard more than now. You could still create a kind of your own style, like you did with “Ballerina”. ![]()
Thank you for your kind words TNT.
Not actually a “real musician” since I’m self-taught. I just liked to listen to music very carefully since I was very young and when I got a disk of SoundTracker along with some games from a friend in high school, I just started toying around on my Amiga (still in fully working condition). Year after year the whole thing started to get serious. I tried playing guitar (and yes, that photo on SoundCloud is my “studio” some years ago) for the first time ever at the age of 28 but like with other instruments before, whatever I got my hands onto, it felt kind of natural to just play, relatively easily.
Regarding the different styles and genres, you are totally right about sticking to a specific genre in order to get more listeners, but I’m not sure I want to do that. I like the freedom of writing, playing and mixing stuff from a wide variety.
That’s understandable and of course it’s legit continuing this way.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re self-taught or taught by a teacher, the result is what matters, and obviously the result is that you can play that instrument. Did you teach yourself reading notes as well? If so, you ARE a real musician. ![]()
Btw, if you ever need a non-artificial singer, there’s one greek guy called @stoiximan who could cover that part if he’s interested. You could even meet in person.
I never actually bothered to learn reading notes, besides the very very basic stuff.
Lyrics and song writing was never my thing. I always prefered (writing and listening to) mostly instrumental music. About 20 years ago, a professional singer and friend of mine wrote some lyrics on top of some of my existing music, recorded them and published CD’s and performed some concerts (with real professional musicians!). Local radios played the tracks and music magazines gave our album five star reviews, so along with the experience of listening to my music performed on a stage live by brilliant musicians, was more than enough for me! An experience of a lifetime really!
I can imagine that. Nice! I remember when one of my (ProTracker) songs was officially published in 1994, or when I heard one of my (SkaleTracker) songs on a radio show for the first time, or when one of my (Renoise) songs was published on a quite popular genre specific label. That was nice too, but real musicians performing your songs on a stage is something different. And I have to agree with you, instrumental stuff is always good, because only the music is the message. But as long as you have something meaningful to say, having a song text could be quite nice too. Personally I don’t have anything to say anymore that has not been said already, so I prefer sticking to instrumental stuff. Nevertheless it’s cool to see what others could add to your creation, I’m always up for that. @stoiximan added some vocals to one of my songs, and it turns the song into something different. Have a listen:
Yes, actually digital notes like C-4 is all you need to know (as a producer). ![]()
Thanks TNT but i am not really a singer but i like to sing, sometimes it works sometimes not

Here are a couple of songs for you @stoiximan .
“Far Away Within Me” was made using MedSoundStudio and a Yamaha XG MU-50 module back in 2003. The vocals were added in 2022. Currently re-working it in Renoise.
This one was made during the COVID quarantine days. The vocals were recorded on a smartphone! ![]()
Enjoy!
Εισαι μεγαλος μαστορας Μανωλη !!!
I ended up using 55 tracks/groups for this one, it was a bit much for my cpu, but i managed to haul through. ![]()
The first song where I used my own software synth (pads, strings) integrated in Noteahead MIDI tracker:
Here is a song I have been working on for some time, Empty Streets. It still need some tuning:

Musically and stylistically you’re in my personal top 5 of this forum. Well done.
This time directly recorded from Supercollider into Reaper and applied a bit EQ and compression.
Thanks man, that means a lot to me
You know I’m a huge fan of your music and learn so much from your songs, though we have different styles.

Hope everybody is doing ok!

I got a sound file from my step daughter who recorded a snippet of a conversation between a taxi driver and her mum..
She wondered if I could make something out of it, so I filtered and chopped the recording and found out that both driver and passenger had a rhythm!
It was a conversation about struggle, hardship and hope,
inspired me to make this piece of what-would-you-call-the-style?
My wife hasn’t heard it yet, but she and her daughter will hear it on mothers day ![]()
My first try writing a song. I’m not a native English speaker, so may be some grammatical inconsistencies. Below some details of what I’ve used. Cello from Berlin Free Orchestra by Orchestral Tools, and their free library Spindle (felt piano) from SINEfactory series. The guitar was recorded by me, and the vocals too. I would like to hear any feedback from you. Thanks ![]()
