nice tune! i like the groove a lot. definitely movement inducing. I might try LP filtering the vocals a bit in general, and maybe more dramatically at some points, slap a reverb on and automate with the wet dry balance against the filter swells… might give a little more depth to it
something feels a little off during the breakdown riff beginning@ 0:47 to me… should maybe begin a little more simply?
promising tune for sure though! I’d keep working on it if it was me

here’s an hour-long live dark psy-sludge set i made a couple years back, all written in renoise, and performed live by bouncing back and forth between two simultaneous instances of renoise with a korg nanokontrol for tweakz…

i’d say 95% of the synthesis here was done within renoise as well

Very nice sound. Maybe it could be improved, if you would use per-track shuffle (yes, its annoying to use) instead a pretty statical sounding global shuffle?

I once fixed a nice tool to setup shuffle per track: http://tstlab.virtualcreations.de/renoisetools/com.nisanmol.GrooveTool-fixed.xrnx Though this gives you a ton of delay values in the pattern, and since Renoise only has one single delay column, it also is destructive.

I think a house track also lives from slightly different shuffle settings. Maybe some tracks, grooves do not even need shuffle at all. Only some elements. e.g. the bass shuffle could be more subtle IMO.

Thanks, this is interesting ! I didn’t know that using different shuffle settings per-tracks was a thing ! Will experiment. You are right, there are some problems with the bass notes, they sound “off grid” in a bad way

I found the voice samples on youtube, I searched for covers, there are a lot of videos with like 100 views… This “trick” was used by burial, found this docu really interesting (even if the style is completely different) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Et5B-zfAIIo
