Well, around 10 years ago when i started dealing with mastering I also deleted all my songs on SC and my videos on Youtube except a bunch of tracks. If you don’t have a SC pro account your webspace is limited, so you have to delete songs from time to time anyway. The difference is, that I never seeked for visitors, listeners, followers and so on, and I never did any marketing, advertising or else anywhere. I just posted a couple of tracks within this forum here, that’s it. Maybe that’s why I only have a couple of followers on SC and YT, but I don’t care. I don’t need to sell my music, I don’t want to become a pro (I even don’t have time for that) and I don’t care about if someone likes it or not. I do it for myself, just for fun. And I have a real life with a lot of work. I would recommend doing your thing. You can have accounts on SC, YT, BC and so on, but you shouldn’t expect getting enough money for a living with electronic music like billion other talented guys are also producing, so why seeking for listeners? You can just do your thing and if someone discovers your music and likes it, fine, and if not, so what? There’s only one thing that could happen, which is getting spammed or insulted in another way, Happened to me, too. But you can ignore, block and delete all the bothering shit and continue doing your thing. Or you can be the hidden man. But being the hidden man also means not being able sending messages to others or else, so communication is limited. And there’s no possibility for others listening to your music if they would like to,.
This is surely a really good attitude. I neither was carying a lot for visitors, but did some minimal stuff, yet not so carefully nor professionally. I don’t expect to get money from making music either, but I think if one reached a quality level e.g. like you, you could actually automatically make some money, simply because you reached some quality standards. I also think it is not wise to publish single tracks, but instead it is better to publish consistent albums. Also I am very convinced that most people buy and listen to music nowadays almost only because of the mixing quality and the esthetics… Look what silly super simple “compositions” are there, have a look at beatport, but they shine due a very good mix, in the end it all is just some kind of “dance music” and not a symphony. Synthwave even might be one of the most simple genres regarding actual composition and harmonics, similar to Rave or something.
I totally agree with you. Back in 2003-2005 I tried really hard to build an audience. I was hitting up people on myspace and KVR. Talking with them. Trying to promote my stuff. But it was so much work. And It made me nervous. I didn’t want to bother anybody. And wanted a genuine interaction with everybody. Marketing wasn’t for me.
When a small French label picked me up and released my album on CD, I had hoped they would help promote it. And they send out presscopies. Which all got favorable to good reviews. But I couldn’t keep up with promoting myself. So I quit and walked away.
Part of that also ties into what we’re talking about mixing & mastering. I hated how my album sounded. Thought it could & should be better. So I bought up a large part of the cd stock. So other people couldn’t get anymore. Cause I was ashamed of how bad it sounded. No review ever mentioned that. The label didn’t’ mention that. Nobody cared about the sound quality but me.
At that time I also recorded an Underworld-style techno album with my friend. Took 2-3 years of writing and recording every weekend. The music was pretty good. But the mix and master I was doing never sounded good enough in my ears. And we didn’t have the money to have it professionally mastered. So when the album was done I sat on it. And now it rots on a hard disk somewhere, unreleased and unheard. And there are tracks on there that I am still proud of musically.
Would it have set the world on fire? Probably not. But there maybe have people and labels who liked it. So who knows where it could have ended up. But my twisted sense of “perfection” and obsession with sound quality never allowed it to go anywhere.
And we never recorded anything else together after that.
Now I just make music for myself. And in recent years occasionally posting something here. Cause it can get pretty lonely at times, being a musical ninja. As in, my music going completely unseen and unheard.
Definitely. I don’t think anyone here is saying that you should not spend any time on the mix. I am certainly not.
Haha, nice. I also find it pretty difficult to integrate making music / being creative with a normal life cycle having a regular job. Back in the days I actually smoked quite some weed, only to be “creative”. It actually helps to find some new ideas / combinations in your brain which the usual mind state would not allow - but in the same time it ruins your health and life balance totally, so it is the worst approach to be creative. Creative work takes so much time and energy, IMO…
Perfectionism surely is not good, it is unhealthy. But it’s also relative, if your audience really likes it, I guess you already reached a good level. My personal problem though always is consistency. I am quite chaotic when it comes to making music. I always start from zero, due lack of discipline here. And then discipline + creativity is a bad combination for me… Damn, now I lost even the motivation to make some music just by writing this. It is also about cleaning your projects, maybe even get rid of not so good stuff, like cleaning up your life or house.
Is this still a show-off thread?
If so, here’s a fun little track where I sampled a german preacher charismatically talking about pumpkins. The whole time he misspoke “Kürbis” and instead said “Kirbus”. I personally know and love that guy, he is cool.
The cover of the track is made from a photograph of the exact moment he gave that speech, holding up the exact tiny pumpkin that grew in his garden he is talking about.
Everything done in Renoise in one day.
Hey guys stop hijacking this thread if you need mixing advice or any other help there are personal messages or make another thread.Lets keep it to share our tracks
Nice track simple but effective.Less is more in most music making cases and this track reminded me just that
I’ve hidden a cat inside!
I don’t know why I immediately associated it with Savage “Only You”.
And few other songs from that 80s pop era.
Since we have a night curfew in Hamburg from today and it’s one of my best friends Danny’s birthday today, I have the right birthday track for you.
All the best Dan, see you in a fortnight for a couple of beers.
See you soon, Diggi
LG Tisi
and some House Musik
Neander Diggi Thaler, bear with me, please. Your tracks confuse me to no end. Especially your more mash up tracks. I like the aggression and the speed. I like it a lot.
The loud and powerful kicks are great. But the lack of dynamics of everything else makes it fall flat. The vocal samples feel random…yet they work most of the time. Giving a moment of rest. And giving new energy to the track in the bit that follows it. And that “hahahaha” at around the 5minute mark in “Fuck Ausgangssperre” is just perfectly creepy.
Musically it isn’t very sophisticated. To the point that is almost offensively simplistic. But there is some nice tension & energy going, so it does work. And right at the moment that the musical phrase starts to bore me you switch patterns. Enticing my brain with something new to latch on to.
I do feel your tracks tend to go on too long. They are not saying anything new anymore, a pet peeve of mine. And I think they’d be a lot more impactful if they had more dynamics. But still, I keep on listening to them. For a while, at least. So more power to you!
Lovely tracks man and the mix /mastering amazing.
Hello
See my profil on soundcloud
All musics and songs are made with renoise
I definitely enjoyed that. The mix needs some tuning though many freq conflicts but the composition is superb
Hello eretsua, thank you very much for your analysis. 95% of the time I can’t contradict you.
I wouldn’t call the track Fuck of Curfew really musical either.
It comes from my Trash & nonsense section, a track to laugh and provoke.
It was just an idea and I only had a few hours.
The original version is only 3 minutes long, after which I got the idea to make a birthday track for my buddy Danny, who has his birthday today.
The vocals all have a meaning in relation to the word curfew and are not chosen randomly. The order of the vocals yes.
Also the vocals are partly of poor quality but they just fit very well.
I’ve got used to doing a birthday track every year for people I like, they can’t be taken too seriously musically.
Something musical is coming soon, but these projects need a lot more time more time.
You can argue about the length of a song, in general it is between 3 and 4 minutes.
Personally, I think that there are no rules for music as long as you don’t want to make money with it.
I have an idea. Tell me your favorite music genre and two keywords about the content and I’ll try to create a 3 to 4 minute track with full dynamics from it.
Wish you all the best and health and best regards Mathias.
Peace
You’re creating everything, right? Electronics, Amiga-Remixes, Rock/Pop, with or without vocals (real and vocoding) and so on. Cool. I’m not sure, but I think I know your nick from somewhere. Have you contributed your remixes to remix websites? Or in a forum of some remix websites? Anyway, good music, I like it.
For me your best song is this one:

Funky 80s electronics with some vocoding.
Ok, I don’t just want to write here, it’s time for another song. But it’s not a new one, it’s one of the oldest songs I still got online, one of the first songs I made with Renoise around 10 years ago. It’s neither mixed properly nor mastered, and the composition is nothing special. But I still like it and maybe one day I’ll create a remake right before the recycling occurs…
A new DnB Track…
Good Quality…
No samples for NeuroBass?
Your create the neurobass from synth and FX?
Ok
You just use samples
Easy
I could have worked more on this and maybe turned it into something decent, but i got tired of it and it’s a bit half arsed as i don’t think it’s worth my time.
