People are going all ranty regarding the lack of updates… that’s only fair.
BUT and that is very important :
when you work on a complex project for years , there is something almost painful to do the community manger job. Because dealing with constant requests and whining is extraordinarily efficient at draining energy and motivation. Because having to justify yourself for each and every decision is an absolute PITA.
Trust me I’ve been there, and every single devs in their shoes will tell you the same story (just take a look at all those steam alpha releases : devs are all chatty the first few months… then it’s all silence !)
When small teams are involved (without a ton of funding) there’s no one to back you up if you have to slow down or do a side project. Because of what I said earlier : it is not that easy to “just explain” you won’t give anything new soon (and most of the time, it is hard to know when “soon” is).
There’s a reason why big companies have dedicated Community Managers. It not only for marketing purposes, it is also to protect the production team from the clients.
Please bear in mind that :
Renoise is right now one of the slickest most stable DAW ever and it has enough features to keep you occupied for a lifetime.
Go to the native-instrument forums to see what “silent devs” means (and THEY have money). At least, the Renoise team is very active on the forums and they actually answer most questions.
That say I think that’d be a nice move from you guys of the Renoise team" to organize “live Q&A” every once and a while. Once every semester would be plenty. Maybe just once a year.
It might be tedious, but it only lasts a couple of hours. Then on the forums you’ll be able to reply : “for dev related question come to our Q&A !”.
It can even be something a bit festive with live tutorials and song contests from the community…
Actually you should do that every 27th of april. Why ? Because the 26th is International Noise Awareness Day, therefore, the 27th should be declared International Renoise Awareness Day
What do you think ?
