I don’t want to sound unrespectful, but I didn’t imagine that independent labels could have been damaged by the destruction of a Sony warehouse…!?

Terrible riots, but I have to wonder about false flag motives.

News quotes such as:

“This is just a glimpse into the abyss,” former Metropolitan Police Commander John O’Connor told Sky News television. “Someone’s pulled the clock back and you can look and see what’s beneath the surface. And what with the Olympic Games coming up, this doesn’t bode very well for London.”

Or the strange “this is the fault of the internetz and blackberriez” rhetoric.

Basically shit broke loose at a time when the UK Police Tells Public To Report Anti-Government Beliefs As Terrorism, UK’s very influential post-rave and counter culture music scene accidentally burnt to the ground…

I don’t want to sound like a conspiracy nut, obviously things got out of control and thuggery prevailed however legitimate (or not) the root cause, but i have to echo this sentiment:

Great piece. But I need to ask a difficult question - has anyone asked if the police are standing by and doing nothing for a reason? Is it part of something larger? What are the government aims by showing that the police and civil authorities are “incapable” of controlling the situation. In my experience in conflict zones, as a journalist - and do not kid yourself if you believe UK is not a conflict zone - these situations are deliberately allowed to escalate by security forces - and thereby creating the conditions for counter-rampages by state backed militias (EDL/BNP?). At this point, after a relatively peaceful, entirely sceptical society - riven by division - happily gives ups it rights and civil liberties to restore order, and nips any genuine desire for change - against the real enemies of the people, the capitalists and their politicians - firmly in the bud. Of course it is just observation, I could be wrong… ?

warp’s statement.

Unfortunately some releases may never be available physically again.

:(

horrible… that list includes about 80% of my favourite labels, or so :o
i’m a romancer when it comes the the physical stuff out there. good luck to them all…

Did you think each of those labels store their physical releases in their own basements or offices for distribution? Some of those albums are manufactured once, in a single batch, and then sold over many years.

i think his point was with the ‘independent’ thingy.

Terrible :(

http://ninjatune.net/article/2011/aug/11/ninja-tune-statement-on-pias-warehouse-fire

what about insurance? Thought the prime minister said something today about businesses that aren’t even insured getting money from some fund?

still makes no sense. it does not make them less ‘independent’ by using a centralised distribution hub than it would make them using the postal service or public roads or whatever. in fact the centralised storage saves them a lot of money and therefore maybe even enables their existence, most of them probably couldn’t afford to rent their own warehouses. the fact that the building is owned by Sony is totally irrelevant.

in any case, it’s very sad, I hope those idiots who did it are found and convicted.

they apparently got the bastards who did it:

“Two 17-year-olds and an 18-year-old…”
“Sony says that 1.5 million CDs were destroyed in the fire.”

hey, don’t shoot the messenger! :)

yes.

and on the seventh day god said : ’ there will be mp3 ’
No seriously …it sucks …
