I’m trying to export a whole song but I noticed that the tonality of one of my instrument changes completely when it’s rendered, both in the .wav file and during playback in the renoise session. If I reload the instrument I retrieve my original sound but each time I render the song or the instrument the sound is again altered.
It is supposed to be a soft and mellow pad sound before switching to a much harsher sound which doesn’t fit my track…
I did some experimentation on a new and blank session and the problem is still here. I even tried to record the original sound straight from Renoise just after loading the instrument with third party plugin such as Silverspike TapeIt but again this doesn’t work…
Hard to say… what I can see from this is that all the samples in the provided .XRNI are 16Bit / 48k.
So, it would be best to render this out to at least 16Bit / 48k or otherwise make sure ‘dithering’ is enabled.
Check render settings and mastering settings here (dither is in audio prefs btw):
Thanks for your answer and your help. I tried this but unfortunately this doesn’t work. Did you also had the same problem as me in your Renoise session ?
Eventually I think I found what was the problem : in the instrument, the modulation wheel automates several parameters. Everytime I render the song or part of it, I don’t know why but I noticed that the modulation wheel always go back to the value zero. As the mod value is supposed to be very high in this patch, it changes completely the sound of the instrument in the final audio…
Is this supposed to be the normal behaviour of the modulation wheel or is it a bug ?
As far as I know the modwheel and pitchbend resetting to zero is normal behavior. That said, if you need a specific value you can use the Instrument Macros to set whatever value of Modulation and Pitchbend. If you set that value at the beginning of the tune it will stay at that level throughout.
Yes the automation thing was the first one I thought about. Curiously it doesn’t work just by giving one value at the beginning of the song but you need to have at least 2 different values so that the mod wheel value updates itself. Otherwise it’s still the same problem. Seems a bit weird to me…
