Invalid .XI file crashes Renoise

i’m working on .XI export. here’s something that came out. now, i’m fully cognizant of a few things:

  1. yes, while working on .XI export, it can cause issues - and i don’t really know what i’m doing - still crafting it.

but
2. when dragging an incomplete or invalid file to Renoise, Renoise shouldn’t just fully crash (like i’m talking, Renoise.app just vanishes! no crashlog, no nothing, just poof, gone - i mean, that’s not very safe is it? :slight_smile:

amenz164_v5_rename_to_xi_extension.XRNI (286.1 KB)

here’s the file - please change the extension to .xi

I just get this error, no crash.

how disappointing. i got the crash 3 times on this specific file.
i wonder…

after changing the extension to .xi and starting Renoise from loading it, it immediately closes, seems to crash with no details in the log file (windows 11, Renoise 3.5.1)

^^ thanks! @Jonas
@spinesois which OS are you on? for me, macOS crashes.

maybe he forgot to change the extension to .xi instead of .xrni?

macOS 15.5. Intel.

@Jonas No, I changed it.

Edit: Sorry, that was macOS being dumb. Changing it in Finder only visually changed the extension, but in reality it replaced “.XRNI” with “.xi.XRNI” and hid the “.XRNI”. Changing the extension from the Terminal, I reproduced this bug too.
