Is it possible to alias patterns between tracks?

I find that I often have two/three tracks for my bass that act as layers (low/med/high), so the three tracks share the same midi data, they’re just processed differently. But I can’t find a way to make these patterns aliases so that changing one will automatically change the others. Going about manually fine-selecting things to change notes/fx/whatever in both works, but it is repetitive. So is it possible to make alias patterns between tracks, rather than just within one track going down the pattern editor?

Perhaps using ‘Phrases’ could help here.

It looks like you can use MIDI-In/Out to the track you want to synchronize.
If you shift the channels when in Edit Mode, you will not get duplicate inputs.

Two approaches I’ve tried in the past:

  1. The Sync All Notes In Group tool.
  2. A meta plugin host like Plogue Bidule, DDMF Metaplugin, or Kushview Element. These let you essentially treat multiple plugins as one. Element has a free version if you’re curious, though I can’t vouch for it.

Sorry, I’m not sure, how exactly did you resolve this issue?

I can have the phrase play across multiple tracks, so each track is playing the same notes by virtue of playing the phrase, but each track is processed differently. Then, if I need to edit the sequenced notes themselves, I can do so in the phrase editor, rather than editing individual notes in each track.

How do you do so? Do you export and import? But that doesn’t mean that changes to the phrases are immediately reflected on each track, does it?

Are you saying that you Save Preset a phrase and reload it with another instrument?

I was thinking that you wanted only the MIDI information to be the same and the rest to be changeable, but maybe you just used the same instrument on different tracks?

Perhaps the real issue was to see if there was a better way to create unisons with several different scales?

We might be talking about different things here. I am using the same phrase from the same instrument on multiple tracks. E.g., C-4 on Inst. 6 on Tracks 1, 2 and 3. This is so I can have the same bassline separated into 3 unique layers (low, mid, and high).

Track 1: LPF to cut the mids and highs, keeps the sub only
Track 2: Bandpass the lows and highs, mid-frequency texture
Track 3: HPF to cut the lows and mids, high-frequency sizzle.

Each track has the exact same phrase, so they both have the exact same note sequence, just processed differently. Then I can resample those three tracks, if I want.

Are you using a vst? If not, you could do the frequency separation in the instrument fx chains and keep it all in one track :slight_smile:

I am convinced. You mean you played the same instrument on different tracks of C4 and changed the filter adjustment on each track FX. Thanks.

Yes, that’s the general idea.
For basses, I’ll often have a dedicated sub chain (with its own waveform) and then split out the mids and highs using a multi band send

I see that you have separate Mod and FX for each sample and process them separately. This may be basic usage, but I had not noticed this before. Thanks for letting me know.
