Just a couple of thoughts about Solo

Although not Renoise 3.1 specific, it does include it, so I posted my thoughts here :slight_smile:

Firstly in the preferences I’m in this mode (the mode I prefer):

My first thought is to do with Solo mode and muted tracks. Why does Renoise Solo override muted/off state on buses? For example if I have this simple group setup (with Track 1 muted):

And I right click on the group play option (shown in red in the above diagram) to solo the group. I get:

Renoise has overridden the mute state on Track 1. That’s a strong solo, it’s like done a ‘solo override’. I must admit if I was writing a solo option mine would’ve done:

Preserved the mute state on Track 1 as default, BUT given the option of a ‘solo with mute override’ say by ALT clicking on solo?

It’s just interesting the way in which music programs handle Solo/Mute state. For people who are really serious into their mixing (and/or have complex projects) I would imagine that those operations are very very important :slight_smile:
