Correct me if i’m wrong, but i’m sure, that you can use multiple outputs with Kontakt and Renoise. Put an instance of Kontakt in the first instrument slot and add an alias instance of Kontakt into the second slot. You can then change the channel in the Instrument Properties to access the other sounds.
Greets and welcome, Alex
Edit: Just did a quick Demo RNS project to show you, how to use multiple outs within Renoise. The project uses the EWZG Kompakt DemoVST.dll, but you should get an idea, how it works.
Yes you can, but i believe Louis wanted to have multiple outputs for individual tracks: Applying different effects upon Aliasses than their host are being effects applied to, which is not possible yet unless only the plugin’s internal effects can be applied seperately to different instruments inside.
If there is no desire to use kontakt-external effects but it’s own internal ones, you can use the alias feature indeed and use the kontakt effects upon the other defined instruments.
Well, kontakt (version 2) has it’s own mixer or output section in which one could apply the included effects. I tend to use alot of plugs on the individual outputs if assiged to different channel’s in the mixer of the host sequencer. I don’t think this would be too hard to implement into renoise- just make it expandable and have the ability to be hidden from the main tracks (and in the upcomming mixer view), this way nobody has to complain about things getting bloated or whatever people may whine about. I read a thread where a few people seamed to be in opposition to the idea- and for some reason couldn’t see the point of implementing multiple outputs for tracks- but they simply don’t have to use the option if not needed. I thought that was kinda lame, in terms of people who use soft samplers, it is kind of a mandatory and much needed feature. It would be like telling people they couldn’t have sub midi tracks to program their patterns with. “Oh no- you just have to load another instance of what you are working with and program your snare in another track if you it to hit at the same time as you high hat”. Same principle, see what I’m saying? Anyhow, I can work around this for now… so these aliases- I haven’t checked them out just yet, but is this something like having the ability to have multiple midi tracks assigned to one VST? Like say for instance I have four different kits loaded into kontakt and I want to assign each kit to a different midi channel- I can just assign these aliases to kontakt accordingly?
Edit: thanks to everybody for the patience, posting links and mini tutorials, the heads up is highly appreciated and being used in the best way I can figure out. I’m glad to find such a supportive forum. It’s nice not getting flamed for simply being new to something, as I hate the attitude some people I have dealt with tend to have (you know, those people who want to keep things to themselves and scorn you like a hipster who knows about some record you never heard of but just bought because it simply seemed like a good idea… haha). I’m trying to use the search function so I don’t have to bother you guys with redundant questions. Once again, thanks for all the help!
I do alot of avant-garde (I swear it’s not an excuse for sucking at making music). I do alot of synthetic orchestral type of stuff as well as noise/industrial. I’ve been getting into alot of drum and bass- I seem to have a nitch for programming jungle really well when I try my hand at it. If you want to hear some of the stuff I mess around with, you can check out this link…
The actual complaint is not that other instruments cannot be used when assigning other instruments to a different channel, but when you want to apply different VST or DSP effects to different tracks, this does not work for VSTi’s that have aliasses.
There is nobody on this world against the option that there would be souverenity support for VSTI aliasses and it may be supported in the future, i don’t know if the VSTI plugin itself supports it because it does not only mean that commands have to be played across different channels, but the audio stream have to be done on different channels as well and currently Renoise only handles the global vsti’s output channel and afaik vsti only has one auxiliary stream (result stream) which cannot be split.
I was just going by what i had read in an old thread on here and there was like three or four people who didn’t like the idea… this was before aliases I think…
Anyhow, I’m sure it will all get sorted out in future updates.
well then your in the most perfect place for extending your jungle programming abilities. i could easily be led to believe, the invention of the tracker brought the genre. i listen to oldschool remarc and wonder how he did what he was doing with cubase, the only explanation i have is he must have had a bank to be able to have all the equiptment needed to do what he was doing. i watched an interview with him, he stated he used cubase on an atari. (i still think he left out the part were he was making his beats in an atari tracker!)
yeah- I think back then, cubase was called “pro16 plus”, I know the only reason the atari had a midi port built onto it was because the boss’s son suggested it’s inclusion for his own little production… wasn’t this pretty much a tracker? I know they simply called it a graphic editor at the time. I don’t know as I’m only 23… the earliest I remember using a computer was the old apple macs playing Oregon Trail and using ataris for q-bert.
i teach cubase at a university level school in norway, and i find it very nice for mixing. but for sequencing and programming electronic music, nothing in the world beats tracking, and the best program for that is without any doubt renoise.
I havent heard of any raves besides all the stuff going down at clubs (roofless productions crew and all those guys have been having to do legit “raves” ever since police started cracking down on them due to all the kids OD’ing on x). But I went to the last apogia party and all the burning man preamps over at the sinagogue. Sometimes I’ll hit up The Church or 2101. We throw alot of parties at local wharehouses (xzanthias on 8th and santa fe, again the sinagogue, what used to be lenolium… cellophane just was put to an end recently)… hey do you remember tracks 2000- chocolate thunder pussy and cyrus and all those freaks? The last real party I’ve been to was probably the latest skylab or bubblegum in the 90’s. I saw infected mushroom recently… that was good. Do you ever hit up the snakepit on thursdays (dnb night)?
