(Kubuntu 25.04) Renoise 3.5.2 installation problems

Hey, people.

Hitting some problems on Renoise 3.5.2 (3.5.1 still works)

The installation script works fine with root permissions, but Renoise is not added to $PATH automatically and cannot be launched unless I apply a chmod +x

gonk@BRAIN:/mnt/BACKUP/DOWNLOADS/rns_352_linux_x86_64$ sudo sh install.sh

After this warning, the program then crashes.

I’m kinda clueless on how to proceed. Checking the logs and install.sh doesn’t give me any ideas either.

Thanks in advance

libpattrns.so should be inside the Resources folder of the extracted tar.gz file you have downloaded.

If it’s not there that would explain why it wasn’t copied by the install script, this script isn’t really checking the files, just tries to copy everything from the folder to /usr/local/share/renoise-VERSION so it would report the install being successful even if some files were missing.

The font config error saying the Config.xml doesnt exist hints at other files also missing.

I see that you are running the installer from a mounted drive which afaik can mess up the permissions if it’s formatted as FAT for example, so you could try copying the whole rns_352... folder into your main drive somewhere then run the install script from there (this could fix the permission issue as the installer sets permissions before copying).

But more likely the files aren’t even in the installer’s folder to begin with, you should try extracting the downloaded tar.gz file again (or possibly downloading it again).

Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up redownloading the tar.gz and running the install script from /home instead and it worked

Weird enough, the original installer had the libpattrns.so in the Resources folder and running that script with verbose didn’t show any errors.

Makes sense! Suppose it was about the mounted drive then, I guess the installer could do some checks to ensure all files were copied correctly or that they exist to begin with. Fixing permissions after copying might also be a good idea.

On a side-note, you might want to backup your backup drive in case it’s something related to its health :face_with_monocle:
