Linux Cpu Horror

Just wondering if many others have had this rather unpleasant and hypervariable cpu spiking problem. On linux rt kernel I can run jack ardour rosegarden and AMS without much complaint. Obviously I’d rather be running renoise as my sequecr for AMS/other synths but AMS tends to crash and I get disgusting Xruns once renoise is introduced.
Does anyone know if a different routing set up might help? I was running AMS back into renoise via jack on midi record setting. Would I be better off running all into ardour.

AMS is becoming something of an infatuation for me. I SOUNDS AWESOME and when renoise and AMS are running and I control it from renoises midi tools it is beautiful.

Sounds like something to try out!

Things to consider:

  1. How does it work with a non-rt kernel?
  2. Are you running ams compiled from source (version 2.0 is newest IIRC), did you also try svn/cvs (thought I had the url somewhere, cant seem to find it right now)?
  3. Which are your buffersizes, and did you try lowering them, and what were the effects?
