Hi everyone.
I’m experiencing some crazy Renoise behavior on Linux.
Did a ton of digging and still can’t find an answer (including feeding my logs to a LLM).
First off, some version information:
OS: EndeavourOS (Arch), Linux 7.0.10-zen1-1-zen
pipewire 1:1.6.6-1
pipewire-jack 1:1.6.6-1
Renoise: 3.5.4
Steps:
I try to close Renoise (regardless if there is a project loaded) and I get this error:
A fatal error or crash occurred (unhandled exception in thread: GUI).
A backup of the current document was saved at
'/home/gonk/.config/Renoise/V3.5.4/CrashBackups/Untitled_6_3_2026__21_21_crash.xrns'...
This either happened because of a bug in Renoise, or because of a bug in one of its loaded components (plugins). Please contact <bug@renoise.com> and report this problem, so that it can be fixed.

Killed renoise
Now, comes the weird part:
Renoise gets stuck here, the window never closes (despite saying killed renoise)
If check disk usage:

My disk is suddenly full!? Now I’m hit with a ‘not available space’ error coming from Renoise trying to save the crash backup project!

Two instances of Renoise (one that crashed previously) created these mysterious 113.22 gb files. Killing the processes give me back my disk space:

Now, I try again, same procedure. This time, I decided to follow the Renoise log.txt and also grep the process to find out what the heck it was doing.
First find: the log.txt is growing to infinity with the same line

The file keeps growing and growing while Renoise remains unresponsive. Finally, it crashes, leaving out my disk full (like describe above). It’s like Renoise gets stuck trying to disconnect from Pipewire and gets stuck.
So I opened Renoise again, went to preferences and picked ALSA… instant crash, before even trying to close… logs.txt starts populating but I get more information in console:

Completely reinstalled pipewire, pipewire-jack, pipewire-alsa… same problem.
Tried only vanilla config files, same thing. With and without pw-jack.
What else? I’m clueless here.
